The US Coast Guard, earlier this month, intercepted a submarine transporting six tonnes of cocaine with a street value of more than £133 million in the Pacific Ocean.    The 'narco sub' was spotted by a reconnaissance airplane, with two small boats dispatched from the US Coast Guard's Valiant to intercept the vessel. The crew assisted by the Colombian navy, arrested four suspected smugglers in the daring operation.         Valiant's Commander Matthew Waldron said: "There are no words to describe the feeling Valiant crew is experiencing.   "In a 24-hour period, the crew both crossed the equator and intercepted a drug-laden self-propelled semi-submersible vessel.   "Each in and of themselves is momentous events in any cutterman's career. One of the most wanted Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) suspects was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Office on Thursday September 26, before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.  The 36-year-old man identified as Joesph Oyediran, pleaded not guilty after being arraigned on a five count charge bordering on internet fraud and other fraud related offences. He was remanded in Mandala Prison while the case was adjourned till October 9 for commencement of trial. EFCC's statement reads in part;  Oyediran was arraigned before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, on a five count charge bordering on internet fraud and other fraud related Offences, obtaining money under false pretence among others. Veteran singer, Daddy Showkey has just announced the death of Mad Melon, one half of the popular 90s group 'Danfo Drivers'. The late musician, Omeofa Oghene, popularly known as "Mad Melon reportedly passed away on Wednesday, September 25th 2019. President Buhari has met with Bill Gates and Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote in New York.  During the meeting today, the President applauded the contributions of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Aliko Dangote Foundation to humanitarian and developmental activities in Nigeria.

The Department of State Services, DSS, has given a reason why embattled publisher of Saraha Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, is still in custody despite fulfilling his bail conditions yesterday September 25th. In an interview with media, the spokesperson of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunnaya said the agency is yet to receive the Federal High court Abuja's order granting Sowore bail.  “We have not received the court order. And his (Sowore’s) counsel is a very senior member of the bar and he knows the process to follow; this process has not been followed'' Afunnaya said Falana was at the DSS headquarters in Abuja yesterday to receive Sowore after the bail condition was fulfilled.

A Nigerian student of Towson University has been arrested and charged with raping a fellow student as she watched a movie with him in his room and this elicited shocking reactions from Nigerians. 20-year-old Chukwuebuka Onyekachukwu Igwilo was charged with first-degree rape, attempted first-degree rape, false imprisonment and first- and second-degree assault in Maryland, U.S. The news was shared on Facebook and the reactions from some Facebook users were shocking. A number of them said the rape was justified because the female student went to Igwilo's room. Others asked what she was wearing when she went there and what kind of "vibes" she gave off while there. A Nigerian in a Twitter exchange narrated how she and her siblings killed their mother's dog out of resentment.  @hauwa_ivy said they killed their mother's dog because they felt it was getting more attention than them. Don Jazzy has condemned the Nigerian National Assembly for spending on what he described as ''inessentials." The Mavin Record boss made the statement in reaction to a budget analysis by BudgIT. According to the budget analysis, 10.2 billion Naira is budgeted for Legislative Aides of the National Assembly, whereas, only 6.11 billion Naira is budgeted for all the 43 Federal universities in the country. Can someone make me understand why these legislators need many aides to work for them and why they should be on the govt's payroll? A group of dancers in Lagos state on Tuesday September 23, staged a protest following the death of their friend, 22 year old Nene Chineyerem, a model and graphic artist, who was stabbed to death by miscreants around Adeite street Sawmill in Ifako on September 10th. According to the protesting dancers, Nene was on his way home at about 10pm when he was accosted by the miscreants who stabbed him in the neck while attempting to steal his phone. According to the dancers, Nene held his bleeding neck and was walking around appealing to residents of the area to rush him to the hospital.
